Creative Coaching for Ideas That Need a Way Forward

Creative work rarely gets stuck because you have no ideas. More often, there are too many directions, a harsh inner critic, competing responsibilities or no clear next step. Creative coaching with Amber Grothe offers a focused space to sort through that complexity and turn an important idea into movement.

This is not a formula for becoming more productive. It is a collaborative process for understanding what your work is asking of you, noticing what interrupts it and choosing an experiment that fits your actual life.

When creativity feels blocked or scattered

You may be starting a personal project, returning to your practice after a pause or trying to complete work that has lost its energy. Perhaps perfectionism keeps you preparing instead of making. Perhaps a project has grown so large that every possible decision feels equally urgent.

In a session we slow the situation down. We separate the creative question from the practical one, identify assumptions that have become invisible and decide what deserves attention now. The goal is not to force inspiration, but to create the conditions in which it can become usable.

What we can explore

  • Choosing between several ideas or directions
  • Moving through perfectionism, self-doubt or fear of being seen
  • Developing a concept without losing its original energy
  • Building a sustainable rhythm around work, care and rest
  • Finishing, sharing or presenting a project
  • Reconnecting with play, curiosity and embodied intuition

A practical and embodied process

Conversation is central, but it does not have to do all the work. Depending on your question, Amber may invite you to map a project, write, sketch, move, compare possible routes or look at the situation from the perspective of its different stakeholders. These are simple ways to make tacit knowledge visible. You remain the expert on your work and decide which observations matter.

Each conversation ends with a concrete next step: a small prototype, a boundary, a decision, a conversation to have or protected time for making. At a following session, we can examine what the experiment revealed instead of judging it as a success or failure.

Coaching informed by an artistic practice

Amber trained in Fine Arts at AKV St. Joost and completed a Master’s in Holistic Science at Schumacher College. She works as an artist, social designer and workshop facilitator, and has collaborated with TU Delft since 2021. This background shapes a way of working that is attentive to materials, relationships, uncertainty and the wider system around an idea.

For support that is specifically about an artist’s professional practice, portfolio or body of work, see Art Coaching. If your question is broader than the creative process, start with Life Coach Rotterdam.

Who creative coaching is for

Creative coaching can support artists, designers, makers, writers, cultural workers, researchers and people who do not use a creative job title but have a project they care about. You do not need to arrive with a polished brief. A persistent feeling that something wants to change is enough material to begin with.

Sessions in Rotterdam or online

Sessions take place in Rotterdam or online. Amber’s Rotterdam base is at Coolhaven 558, 3024 AR Rotterdam. Online sessions make it possible to work together from elsewhere while keeping the same focused, personal format.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a professional artist?

No. This page is for anyone working through a meaningful creative question. The work can be professional, personal or still at an early stage.

Will you tell me which idea is best?

Amber will help you test the differences between options and see their consequences more clearly. The decision remains yours, so it is connected to your values rather than somebody else’s formula.

Can I bring work in progress?

Yes. Notes, images, plans, prototypes and unfinished material can make the conversation more specific, but they are not required.

Give the idea a next step

If a project matters but keeps circling in your head, you can begin with a conversation about where it is now and what kind of support would be useful.
